The game did not go down well for Sam Kerr and Co.

The National Women's Soccer League finals champions have been crowned and for a second year running, the title has gone to the North Carolina Courage.

Debinha and Co. overcame Chicago Red Stars in Sunday's final, sweeping them aside en route to a 4-0 victory. Sam Kerr and Co. had never won the NWSL Championship before, with this being their first appearance in a final, but their debut did not go down well.

Despite boasting the National Women's Soccer League Golden Boot winner Kerr, the Red Stars could not find the back of the net and struggled to protect theirs. Courage broke the deadlock early on, after only four minutes of play, with none other than Debinha slotting past World Cup winner Alyssa Naeher after a defensive mishap.

Things went from bad to worse in the 26th-minute when Jessica McDonald doubled the NWSL Shield champions lead. In stoppage time in the first half, Crystal Dunn put the game out of reach by making it three, profiting off yet another defensive blunder.

Sam Mewis added the fourth 16 minutes after the break ended and things remained that way until the final whistle. Debinha was named MVP for the final for her excellent display.

Introducing your NWSL Championship MVP!

This means North Carolina Courage have now won three of the four consecutive finals they have now played since relocating from New York. Given their dominance, we will likely see them in the final soon.
