Håland matches Benzema and Drogba's UCL records

Norwegian wonderkid matches Benzema and Drogba's Champions League records

October 23, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The teenager was on the scoresheet once again.

He has struck again, Yes, Erling Braut Håland has struck again!

After announcing his presence to the world by scoring nine goals in Norway U20's 12–0 win against Honduras U20 at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland and following it with a hat-trick against Genk in September, 19-year-old prodigy has secured another historic berth with his goals against Napoli.

Wednesday's clash between RB Salzburg and the Serie A outfit saw the son of Norway legend Alf-Inge Håland grab an equaliser for his side after Dries Mertens had given the visitors the lead. The forward converted a 40th minute penalty-kick to ensure that the score was tied going into the break.

In the 72nd-minute, he tied the game for his side once more after Dries Mertens had put Carlo Ancelotti's men ahead earlier in the 64th-minute.

As things stand, Håland has now scored in each of his first three Champions League appearances, becoming only the first teenager after Real Madrid's Karim Benzema to do so. The latter accomplished the feat at the age of 18 for Olympique Lyon.

With his goal tally in the Champions League now standing at six, the Norwegian sensation leveled Didier Drogba's feat for Marseille in the 2003/2004 season. The two are now the only players in the history of the European competition to score at least five goals in their first three matches.

Håland is currently the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League's top-goalscorer.
