Barca draw up shortlist for Suarez's replacement

Barcelona draw up four-man shortlist in search of a Suarez replacement

October 14, 2019 By Ali M.
The Uruguayan forward might be their top scorer this season so far but the Blaugrana look to replace him with a younger name..

Luis Suarez might be Barcelona's top scorer so far this season with six goals in eight games under his belt, but the Uruguayan's time with the club appears numbered. According to the latest rumors, courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants look to move on the soon-to-be 33-year-old forward.

Inconsistency and poor fitness have plagued his career as of late and the Blaugrana wish to pair a younger forward with Messi and new-signing Antoine Griezmann. As a result, that Catalan giants have drawn up a wishlist which contains four names – two from the Premier League, one for Ligue 1, and one from Serie A.

Roberto Firmino has not made this list as he is two years shy of being 30. Instead, Marcus Rashford is one of the four Barcelona are choosing to pursue. Despite the Man United man's struggles this season, the Englishman continues to be linked to Camp Nou. However, it is hard to see Bartemou and Co. preferring Rashford to the three other names on the list.

Harry Kane is the other Premier League star on this list, an inclusion that needs no explanation. Despite Tottenham's struggles this season, he is a highly-sought-after forward who is even wanted by the likes of Real Madrid. However, the odds of landing him are unknown given that Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy is a shrewd businessman.

Also on the list is Lautaro Martinez, the Argentine who impressed at Camp Nou for Inter Milan despite the 2-1 loss. The South American forward scored an early goal in that Champions League clash and would have had a second had it not been for Ter Stegen's amazing reflexes.

However, all these names pale in comparison to Barcelona's top priority and that is Kylian Mbappe. The Blaugrana understand fully that bringing the Frenchman to Catalonia is not an easy task and would require a heavy fee at the very least.

Nonetheless, he would join countrymen Dembele and Griezmann and would play alongside and learn from a five-time Ballon d'Or winner who sadly is in the latter stages of his career. Only time will tell if Barcelona can pull this off, given their failed attempt to lure Neymar from PSG last summer.
