The Argentine did not hold back when asked about Neymar's reasons to try and make a comeback to Camp Nou.

The good relationship between Lionel Messi and Neymar is no secret, and the Blaugrana captain shared his views on how he followed his friend's transfer saga with the fear he would end up playing for Los Culés' bitter rivals.

Speaking in his interview with RAC1, Messi admitted that he was expecting the Brazilian ace's comeback, but once he realized he would not be playing for Barcelona, he watched desperately how Real Madrid was linked to his friend, although Los Blancos never made a move to sign him.

"Honestly, I thought Neymar would go on to play for Real Madrid if he did not end up here (Barcelona). He was dying to leave Paris and he was not shy when asked about it. I believed that Florentino (Pérez) and Real Madrid would make a move, and I wouldn't dismiss a transfer involving Neymar to either Real Madrid or Barcelona next summer," Messi stated.

The Argentine ace went further by stating that he may know the reason why Neymar pushed so hard for a move that did not end up happening.

"I believe he regrets leaving Barcelona. Shortly after he left, he realized his mistake and how he had made a bad call. Judging things by how I know him, I believe that's the truth," Messi added.

Neymar left Barcelona in 2017 to become the most expensive player in history, but he is yet to win the UEFA Champions League or a Ballon D'Or with Les Parisiens. Now, after quite a busy summer full of stories, something tells us that Messi knows more than he shared, and we could be in for a new Neymar transfer saga in the near future.
