Manchester United fans are pushing hard to see their team improve under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but if that does not happen, they could see a new boss trying to turn things around in the next couple of weeks.
While Solskjaer will be given a fighting chance to keep his job, the team's hierarchy has already identified their two primary targets to fill in the potential void left by the Norwegian. One of those coaches is currently available, while the other one seems to be an alternative for the 2020-21 season.
The first name is none other than Massimiliano Allegri, who has already established his demands to the team, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian manager is only willing to consider the job if it's offered to him in the next few weeks, or else, he will choose to stay unemployed until a new offer comes knocking on his door.
Sources consulted by the Italian newspaper suggest that Allegri will only consider this job offer for a few weeks since he would still have time to turn things around this season. If the Red Devils don't come knocking on his door, Allegri is willing to wait for a chance to return to the sidelines.
The other option considered by Manchester United is that of Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently working with RB Leipzig. The 32-year-old coach is seen as Solskjaer's long-term replacement, and even Sir Alex Ferguson has approved his signing. The German boss is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2023, but he could be willing to consider an offer next summer if the price is right.
Out of these two options, the one involving Massimiliano Allegri seems to be the safest bet, especially since the Italian boss is keen on landing the job. The former Juve tactician has the experience and the managerial skills to handle a tough locker room, but the possibility of working with "Baby Mourinho" (Nagelsmann's nickname) could be too tempting for Man United execs to overlook.
