The likes of England, Belgium, Spain, and Italy can all secure their spots in Euro 2020 during the latest round of qualifiers. Check out our preview for more info.

Who was called up for the international break and who wasn’t?

Belgium

Kevin de Bruyne is the biggest absentee. The Man City defender is recovering from a groin injury and was thus left out of the squad, alongside Vincent Kompany and Lyon defender Jason Denayer.

Netherlands

Stefan de Vrij has made Ronald Koeman’s squad. Elsewhere, there are no surprises, with De Ligt, Van Dijk, De Jong, Wijnaldum, and Depay all being called up.

England

Southgate has stayed true to his promise of rewarding form over being a high-profile player by calling up the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount. The Chelsea striker is the leading goalscorer in the Premier League alongside Aguero and is now in contention with the senior side. There’s no room for the likes of Kyle Walker, Jesse Lingard, and Dele Alli.

France

The World Cup champions have left out Pogba from the squad, as the Man Utd midfielder struggles with fitness and form. However, both Mbappe and Kante are back after missing the previous international break due to injuries. Tanguy Ndombele makes a comeback while both Umtiti and Laporte remain sidelined.

Portugal

Pepe has returned for the European champions after recovering from injury, with Leicester ace Ricardo Pereira and Barca man Nelson Semedo also getting call-ups. Bernardo Silva, Goncalo Guedes, and Cristiano Ronaldo are expected inclusions, with youngster Joao Felix also getting a nod.

Italy

Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo have made the cut, but rumors of Daniele De Rossi’s return to the national team have been ended by a hamstring injury. Inter’s Stefano Sensi will miss out after picking up an injury in the 2-1 loss to Juventus over the weekend.

Spain

Uncapped trio Sergio Reguilon, Gerard Moreno and Pau Torres have all received call-ups, including former Arsenal ace Santi Cazorla who has begun the season well with Villarreal. Jordi Alba and Isco are struggling with fitness and thus miss out while Koke and Paco failed to make the cut.

Permutations: who can qualify for Euro 2020 during this break?

A few teams can secure progression during this international break. England are one of those sides, as they need a victory over the Czech Republic in their next game to book a ticket to next year’s tournament.

Reigning champions Portugal cannot secure progression this month but their Group B rivals Ukraine, who top the table can, but only if they pick up four points across their next two games in October.

Spain can also secure their spot in Euro 2020 but will need a few results to go their way. First, the 2010 World Cup champions, who top the table with 18 points, must beat Norway. Secondly, second-placed Romania must fail to beat the last-placed Faroe Islands.

Belgium, who boast a perfect record, can qualify via two methods. The first is by beating San Marino, which should be a straight-forward win. However, if the Red Devils are shocked by the minnows, a draw between Kazakhstan and Cyprus would see Hazard and Co. go through.

And finally, Italy can also book their ticket to Euro 2020 should they win their upcoming qualifier against Greece and third-placed Armenia drop points against last-placed Liechtenstein.
