LIGA MX: Matchday 13 preview, including Cruz Azul vs América

October 3, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The clash between Los Cementeros and the yellow and blue side could very well become one of the highlights of the competition.

Matchday 13 in the Apertura 2019 tournament will once again bring some interesting games between the "Big Four". América will try to repeat their win in the Clásico last week when they visit Cruz Azul, while their opponents from last week may be facing elimination when they host Pumas in a rather complicated clash for both clubs.

Elsewhere, the current leader Santos and second-placed Necaxa will have to work a bit harder to earn points, as they will have to face Tigres and Morelia away from home. One more team looking to improve their current position is León, who may have a rather easy clash when they face Veracruz, the owners of the longest streak without a win.

Matchday 13 will begin with only one game on Friday. Then, Saturday will have tons of action for fans in Mexico, as five games are scheduled to be played. The weekend will come to an end with three games taking place on Sunday, with the one between Querétaro and Monterrey wrapping things up. Pachuca will be given a bye this week due to the odd number of teams playing in the Mexican top-flight.

Without further ado, let's see what Liga MX's Matchday 13 has to offer for fans watching around the world.

Cruz Azul vs América

What else can we say about this game? A rivalry that increases with each passing game gives us many memories to look back to, but Cruz Azul will need to overlook their past mistakes and try to beat América in order to keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive. The team's current woes on and off the pitch seem to give Miguel Herrera's men an edge over their bitter rivals, but Cruz Azul's footballers have what it takes to shock their biggest nemesis.

Guadalajara vs Pumas UNAM

Chivas' tournament resembles a train wreck, but they still have the chance to turn this around. But first, the red and white side must beat Pumas, a team coached by Real Madrid legend Michel, who own the last ticket to the Liga MX playoffs. It could be a do-or-die clash for Guadalajarara, because they need to win five out of their seven remaining games. Meanwhile, Pumas will try to hold on to thei eighth spot in any way they can, and if they can walk out of Akron Stadium with all the points, even better.
