Ole reveals why Wan-Bissaka was dropped vs Arsenal

Man Utd vs Arsenal: Solskjaer explains why Tuanzebe started at right back amid calls for Wan-Bissaka

September 30, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Red Devils boss has come clean on why the former academy star got his full Premier League debut this season.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the reason why Axel Tuanzebe started at right back ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Monday's epic clash against Arsenal. The Norwegian manager's choice of personnel is one that has drawn massive criticism on social media since the lineup was revealed ahead of the encounter.

With the early team news not giving any cause for concern, supporters of the Red Devils expected a rather familiar lineup despite injury troubles in recent weeks. Even so, the team was massively boosted with both Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford passing a late fitness test to confirm their inclusion having almost missed out as a result of injury.

Nevertheless, the surprise element presented itself when the starting lineup was released an hour ahead of the classic encounter. Center back Axel Tuanzebe was made to feature in place of first-choice right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Despite impressing in last Wednesday's cup victory over Rochdale, the former academy star's addition was hardly anticipated, causing fans to question Solskjaer's gameplan.

In a pre-match interview with MUTV, the 46-year-old former Old Trafford star states that he was made to amend the lineup as Wan-Bissaka is down with illness.

"He's been ill over the weekend and we had to make the decision on that yesterday. Hopefully we'll have him back soon."
