How to watch Sheffield United vs Liverpool live on September 28, 2019

September 27, 2019 By Ali M.
The Reds travel to Bramall Lane with the aim of ending their unimpressive record at Sheffield's home ground. Check out our match preview for more info.

What is the form of Sheffield United compared to Liverpool?

Sheffield might be heading into this tie on the back of a recent defeat to Sunderland in the Carabao Cup, but the newly-promoted side have been impressive in the Premier League for the most part. Their two wins, two draws, and two defeats from their opening six games aren’t great but their defensive displays have caught everyone’s eyes. They have only conceded six goals so far this season, with only two clubs in the top-flight boast a better record – Liverpool and Leicester (5).

What can be said about Liverpool’s form that hasn’t already been said? Not only are the Reds the only team to boast a perfect record but they are also they only unbeaten side in the league. They have played nine games since the season began and their only loss was the 2-0 defeat at Napoli in the Champions League.

Sheffield United vs Liverpool head-to-head record

Sheffield have won their fair share of games over Liverpool. Nonetheless, the head-to-head record favors the Reds and the last time they lost to the Blades was back in January 2003 in the League Cup. It should be noted that these two sides have faced off only three times after that 2-1 win.

Games played: 136

Sheffield wins: 45

Liverpool wins: 60

Draws: 31

Team news

The home side will be without Billy Sharp as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension. Elsewhere, Chris Wilder has no injury concerns and will have a full squad minus Sharp to choose from.

As for Liverpool, they have a few concerns. Origi and Alisson remain on the sidelines and are yet to return. Shaqiri is a doubt. Question marks over Mane’s availability rose after an unfortunate knock in the 2-1 win over Chelsea but the Senegalese ace is expected to be fit in time.

Key stats

  • Sheffield have hosted Liverpool in the Premier League three times before and the Reds are yet to win a game at the Blades’ Bramall Lane stadium.

  • Bramall Lane is one of three stadiums Liverpool have played at in the Premier League without winning, the other two being Nottingham Forest's City Ground (P5, W0) and Blackpool's Bloomfield Road (P1, W0).

  • However, Klopp’s men are likely to put this record to an end as they have won their last 12 top-flight games against newly-promoted sides.
