What is the form of Arsenal compared to Aston Villa?
After winning their first two games of the season, Arsenal have now gone three straight Premier League games without a win. Their dip in form started with a 3-1 loss to Liverpool, an expected result given it was at Anfield. Since then, the Gunners have drawn 2-2 twice, first with Tottenham then Watford. However, Emery’s men did beat Frankfurt 3-0 in their Europa League opener on Thursday.
As for Aston Villa, things haven’t been going well despite their major summer spending spree. The 2-0 win over Everton remains their only victory this season, drawing 0-0 with West Ham in their most recent fixture and losing every other game since their promotion.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa head-to-head record
Winning at the Emirates Stadium is something Aston Villa have pulled off before. However, their last away win over Arsenal was way back in August 2013. That was also their last victory over the north London giants.
Games played: 193
Arsenal wins: 82
Aston Villa wins: 66
Draws: 45
Team news
Arsenal’s biggest absentee is Alexandre Lacazette. The French forward has been ruled out until October due to a reoccurring ankle issue. Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney recently featured for the U23 in their bid to make the first team and will thus not feature in Sunday’s clash. Question marks linger of Rob Holding, who despite recovering from his injury, lacks match fitness.
As for the Villans, they could welcome back Matt Targett and Trezeguet. However, the newly-promoted are without Jonathan Kodjia and James Chester.
