Zidane addresses exit rumors in press conference

Zidane leaves Real Madrid future up in the air amid exit rumors

September 21, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The French boss has faced massive criticism after the team's 3-0 loss to PSG, with some media outlets naming Jose Mourinho as his replacement.

Real Madrid's French boss Zinedine Zidane is well aware of the reports that suggest he could leave the club before the end of the year, and even if he is living his worst moments as Los Blancos' boss, he is still eager to try and turn things around.

Despite those feelings, Zidane admitted that if he does not feel the support from his employers, he would end up resigning from his position, according to his own words in Saturday's pre-match presser.

"I feel with the necessary strength to carry on. I will keep on trying for as long as I can. My strength comes from the people within the club, and if that was not the case at some point, it would be better to leave," Zidane said.

Jose Mourinho's name has been thrown into the conversation as his possible replacement, but Zidane understands that sort of thing comes with the territory.

"I don't mind if his name is being linked to the club. When things are going like this, it's normal. It's hard to deal with but that's what we need to do. Tomorrow we will have 90 minutes to flip the script," Zidane added.

The former midfielder decided to give his players a day off even after the 3-0 loss against PSG, and Zidane did not hold back when asked about it.

"The main problem is that when I look at how the squad was built, it is not a matter of saying if the players deserved a day off or not. They have to be with their families. Seven games in 21 days is too much, and this was a day they needed. We came back from Paris at 4 a.m. and everyone always has an opinion. I am the first person that wants to win it all, but there's more to life than football," Zidane added.

Before the presser concluded, Zidane asked fans for a little time to try and turn things around, especially since he believes that there is still hope for the rest of the season.

"I made the decision to come back because it is a new project. It's a complicated moment but I will always try. When we win, it's easy for us. We are all together in this, and I say it because when I read the stuff you guys write, you always talk about how bad things are around here. And let me tell you, you don't have any idea on how things work around here," Zidane concluded.
