La Liga - Facts and stats after Matchday 4

La Liga Roundup - Sevilla claims the top spot back after Atlético's woeful display

September 16, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
Julen Lopetegui's men got away with a win from Alavés' ground to keep the top-spending clubs in Spain away from the first place.

The first major change in La Liga took place in the first weekend following the International break, as Atlético Madrid saw their perfect form come to an end in their clash against Real Sociedad. Hence, Los Colchoneros are no longer the best team in La Liga, an honor that belongs to Sevilla after their 1-0 win against Alavés.

Los Hispalenses own the first place of the competition with ten points, with Atlético one point behind. Real Madrid and Athletic are next with eight points, and while Barcelona earned another emphatic win at home, they still have to make up for their loss during Matchday 1.

"Sevilla FC is La Liga's new leader!"

Former La Roja and Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui seems to have hit the nail on its head when it comes to coaching the red and white side. Curiously, Los Hispalenses are yet to win at home, but they seem to have no need to do that, considering their current display away from the Sánchez Pizjuán.

Meanwhile in Madrid, the team's injury plague has not deterred Los Blancos from their main goal, and most of their success this season has to do with Karim Benzema's impressive form. Since Zidane took over once again as Real's coach, the French striker has stepped up his game to unsuspected heights, as the following numbers show.

Speaking about the other team from the Spanish capital, Los Colchoneros dropped three points after Real Sociedad. The team's late defensive woes were crucial to see them leave Anoeta empty-handed, thanks to the efforts of Martin Odegaard and Nacho Monreal.

But all numbers mentioned above pale when compared to what Ansu Fati (Ansu=first name; Fati= last name) did in his third La Liga outing. The youngster has already made history with two goals and one assist in three games...something that not even Messi could do!
