Arsenal sets unwanted PL records vs Watford

Arsenal sets unwanted records as Watford secures comeback draw

September 15, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The hosts were dealt a huge blow in the afternoon's encounter after taking a comfortable lead in the first half.

Arsenal has landed an unwanted record following Sunday's draw at the Emirates with Watford. The Gunners gave up a two-goal lead to share spoils with the Hornets who capitalized on two defensive howlers to complete their comeback.

In-form striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang grabbed the game's opener in the 21st minute before doubling his Arsenal's advantage 11 minutes later. Having taken the lead into the half-time break, the home side began losing grip after Tom Cleverly capitalised on a defensive error by Sokratis to pull one back for Flores' men.

Former Chelsea defender David Luiz subsequently dealt Unai Emery's side a huge blow by giving away a penalty close to the end of the proceeding. The victim, Roberto Pereyra, made no mistake with his attempt to successfully steal a point for the visitors.

A host of interesting records were attained in the day's encounter with the most notable being the fact that Arsenal face 31 shots throughout the game - the most it has ever faced since Opta began its data collection in 2003. Also, this is the first time in three years that the Gunners failed to win a Premier League match by surrendering two-goal lead.

In addition, the Emirates outfit ranks as the club to concede the most Premier League goals via penalties in the last three seasons. And, finally, the Londoners have made a collective 14 errors leading to goals since the start of last season - the most registered by any club in the Premiership.
