Real Madrid and Barcelona have been labeled as two of the most expensive teams in history, but that notion seems to have changed at least for a year.
According to a study by the CIES Football Observatory, neither one of La Liga's giants can be named as the most expensive team in the world. In fact, Los Blancos barely made the podium, while Barcelona did not make it to the top five teams.
The study contemplates the transfer fees for all the members of each squad, which makes Manchester City the only team in the world to go beyond the €1B ($1.10B) barrier. The second place in this ranking goes to PSG, with Les Parisiens' squad being worth a bit over €913M($1.08B). The third place goes to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants' squad being worth a bit over €902M (some $996M).
Manchester United is the second most expensive side in England, but their squad's worth is way behind those included in the podium, as the Red Devils are worth €751M ($829M). Juventus is the fifth most expensive squad in the world, with a net value of €719M (around $873M).
Speaking about Barcelona, Los Culés are ranked sixth in this list with a net worth of €697M (around $770M). Here are the top ten teams according to the study by the CIES Football Observatory.
