September 7, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Dutchman has supposedly extended his stay with the reigning European champions.

Netherlands center-back Virgil van Dijk has committed his long-term future to Liverpool after agreeing a new bumper deal. The 27-year-old defender has reportedly signed a six-year contract with the Reds and which comes with a massive pay rise.

Following his arrival from Southampton for a record-transfer fee in 2018, Van Dijk has massively improved the defense of Jurgen Klopp's side. His astuteness has transformed the Merseysiders in proper domestic and continental title contenders while on an individual level, his prowess remains unmatched on the planet at the moment.

As a result, Liverpool is aiming to benefit from the Van Dijk's best years and have awarded him with a mouth-watering deal to entice him to stay at the club. According to Mirror, the Reds have bumped up the Dutchman's £125,000 a week salary to £200,000 a week. Apparently, the representatives of the UEFA Men's Player of the Year used Harry Maguire's £190,000 a week salary at Manchester United as a bargaining chip to get the increment.

As per Mirror, the final details of the new deal were laid out last week to end a summer of negotiations. The Anfield club is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days.
