He was stripped of the captaincy and frozen out of the first team but according to his agent, the Argentine could go back to the Nerazzurri.

Mauro Icardi’s Inter Milan nightmare came to an end on deadline day in the summer transfer window. Regardless, his agent claims that a return to San Siro is a possibility for the Argentine.

After falling out with the Italian giants and the board, the South American was stripped of the captaincy before being frozen out of the first team. The club would then go on to announce that he was not in their plans under Antonio Conte, signing Romelu Lukaku from Man United to spearhead the attack.

As a result, an exit was the only solution. The 26-year-old found an escape route and what an escape route it was, joining PSG on a season-long loan on the final day of the transfer window.

The Ligue 1 champions secured the option to buy once the campaign ends but given it’s a loan, his future still remains up in the air. However, his representative claims that the forward could end up back in Italy.

Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, his wife and agent Wanda Nara stated that a return to Serie A is likely. However, she admits she doesn’t know when that will happen but she predicts it will be for his club of six years, Inter Milan.

Nara also admitted that there was interest from Juventus but that Icardi wasn’t open to joining a direct rival. She said (as per Football Italia): “He wanted to be reinstated and train with Conte: who knows where he could’ve gone with him.

“Icardi was Inter’s captain, he would never have gone to Juventus. I have a friendly relationship with Paratici. He was interested and relationship will continue.

“He likes playing in Italy, he knows the League well, he scored 135 goals. I think he’ll come back. I don’t know where and how, but his priority will always be Inter.”

She then went on to open about his decision to join Thomas Tuchel’s French champions, adding: “He couldn’t say ‘no’. He has everything needed to win here. They’re a club full of stars and Mauro is honored to be part of them.

“At the end of the season, we’ll choose what the best option for him is: I work for him, but he makes the decisions.

“I’m his wife, not just his agent: I know him. I knew he would say ‘yes’. The PSG choice came after a year of controversy and tension.

“He also did it to give his children and family a bit of peace. If he’d stayed, the saga would’ve carried on.

“They said I hurt my husband, the father of my children. Do people think when they talk? How can I not want the best for Mauro? His best is mine too.

“I’m not the bad guy in this story, I’m the person who found a solution. It was difficult to get out of this situation with a team at PSG’s level.

“Our decision makes him, our family and I proud. As an agent, I managed to do my best without betraying neither the majority of fans who love him nor Inter.”
