The international break is here and with it comes the return of the Euro 2020 qualifiers. With less than a year remaining before the tournament kicks off, European nations will resume their campaign to make it to the continental competition.
Games will commence on the fifth of this month and will continue until the 10th, with a few exciting clashes set to take place this month. This includes the highly-anticipated encounter between Germany and Netherlands
Here's everything you need to know about the Euro 2020 qualifiers for the month of September.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is injured and has thus withdrawn from the squad. He has not been replaced, however, due to the presence of Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Belgium, meanwhile, will be without the Hazard brothers, with the Real Madrid star missing out due to a thigh issue while his younger sibling is struggling with a rib injury.
Portugal will be led by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix as they look for their first win in the qualifying round. The reigning champions are without experienced defender Pepe. France will be without Paul Pogba after he limped off during the 1-1 draw with Southampton and was replaced by Mateo Guendouzi.
As for Italy, they will be without Moise Kean, who was omitted from the squad after showing up late for a training session. Netherlands will be without Steven Bergwijn after the winger pulled out due to an injury, with Justin Kluivert taking his place.
Will Portugal narrow the gap with Ukraine?
Portugal are the reigning champions of Europe. However, their campaign to qualify for Euro 2020 has not begun well. Cristiano and Co. have picked up only two points from their opening two games and trail group leaders Ukraine by a whopping eight points.
Fortunately, Fernando Santos' crew are guaranteed a playoff spot should things turn sour but failure to win the group or secure automatic qualification will be an embarrassment for the Portuguese. A team that boasts a five-time Ballon d'Or winner alongside Felix, Silva, Neves, and Fernandes should be able to finish ahead of Ukraine, Luxembourg, and Serbia.
