UEFA have named their Europa League Player of the Season, with that prize going to Belgian superstar Eden Hazard. The attacker was one of three men nominated for the prize and was revealed as the recipient during the 2019/20 group-stage draw.
The Real Madrid sensation beat Olivier Giroud and current Blancos team-mate Luka Jovic to the prize. Hazard played a key role in Chelsea winning the title in Baku, putting in a Man of the Match display in the final against Arsenal.
The 28-year-old scored two goals and set up another in the 4-1 win over the Gunners in what was his parting gift to the Blues. He would later go on to leave Stamford Bridge for Santiago Bernabeu after lifting a sixth title with his Premier League employers.
However, not everyone was happy to see Hazard be named the Europa League Player of the Season. The Belgian ace finished the 2018/19 European campaign with only two goals and two assists to his name in eight appearances, four of which were off the bench.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea team-mate Olivier Giroud finished the season as top scorer in the Europa League with 11 goals, nine more than Eden, and five assists, three more than the now Real Madrid attacker. Check out the best tweets and reaction to Eden Hazard's win below.
It's strange how Hazard wins this ahead of Giroud and Jovic. Even Loftus cheek had a better season.
