The Argentine footballer was on the verge of completing a move to Old Trafford, but Woodward pulled the plug on the last minute.

Manchester United was keen on hiring Paulo Dybala, but just when things seemed to be heading to a happy conclusion for all parties involved, Ed Woodward backed out from all negotiations. The reasons for that decision were a mistery to all, but today, a report by The Athletic shed light on the subject.

Dybala's massive wage demands were named as the main reason to see the deal fall apart, but that is not the entire truth. According to the report by The Athletic, Woodward decided not to pursue the transfer due to the similarities this case had with the one that saw Alexis Sánchez join the Red Devils in 2018.

Sánchez was considered one of the most expensive flops in club history, especially due to his $600k weekly wage. Dybala demanded a bit over $426,000, which was a huge warning flag for the English exec.

Furthermore, Dybala's agents demanded a $16M comission for the player's transfer, which also forced Man United to turn their back on the possibility of signing the footballer.

Dybala had been linked to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during the transfer window in England, but neither side was able to strike a deal. The Argentine player is still waiting to decide his future, with a couple of possibilities still in the air for the South American ace before the end of the summer transfer window.
