The Reds fell short despite their recent success in European competitions.

Premier League giants Liverpool could not make the Top 10 in UEFA's club coefficient ranking ahead of the new season despite winning last season's Champions League title. Former defending champions Real Madrid retained its spot atop the list for the fifth year running although it suffered a major setback in the past edition of the competition.

After ruling for over 46 months, Los Blancos' European dynasty came crashing down following a 5-3 aggregate defeat to eventual semi-finalist Ajax in the Last 16 stage of last season's tournament. However, with the ranking of club coefficients derived from the results in the Champions League and in the Europa League during the last five seasons, the Bernabeu outfit enters the 2019/2020 season's group stage in the lead with 146,000 points.

Trailing closely is Barcelona with 138,000 points while Bayern Munich completes the top three with 128,000. The former was eliminated from last season's tournament by Liverpool in the semifinals whereas the Bavarians suffered the same fate against the same opponents in the Round of 16.

The Reds rank 11th with 91.000, having featured in the last two finals of the UEFA Champions League winning the UEFA Super Cup earlier this month. Their Premier League rivals Manchester United is still struggling to rub shoulders with the top European clubs and sits in 18th position with 78,000 points ahead of this season's spell in the Europa League.
