Ligue 1: Stats, facts, and team news ahead of matchday four

August 30, 2019 By Michelle Bonsu
Here's all you need to know heading into matchday four of the 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season.

Matchday three brought some shock results, namely with Lyon slipping up to Montpellier. That means that only Rennes boasts a perfect winning record after three rounds and they are now alone on top of the table.

PSG managed to rebound after their defeat on matchday two, but it came at a high price. Will Thomas Tuchel be able to regroup ahead of their clash against Metz in the first match of round four?

Here's what you need to know ahead of matchday four.

Team news: Who's missing out on matchday four?

Here are some of the notable players who won't be able to feature for their respective sides:

  • PSG: Ander Herrera (Calf Injury); Thilo Kehrer (Foot Injury); Presnel Kimpembe (Fitness problems); Layvin Kurzawa (illness); Edinson Cavani (Hip Injury); Neymar (Fitness); Kylian Mbappé (Torn Muscle); Julian Draxler (Knock)
  • Rennes: Flavian Tait (suspension)
  • Monaco: Danijel Subasic (Hamstring Injury); Stevan Jovetic (Cruciate Ligament Rupture); Cesc Fabregas (suspension); Willem Geubbels (knee problems); Pietro Pellegri (fitness problems); Radamel Falcao (knock)
  • Marseille: Florian Thauvin (ankle injury)
  • Montpellier: Téji Savanier (Knee problem)
  • Lille: Timothy Weah (Unknown Injury)

Stats and facts: What's at stake ahead of matchday four?

  • Were it not for his injury, Edinson Cavani could have become the all-time top goal-scorer in PSG vs. Metz fixtures. Currently, with four goals, he's joint-tied with Robert Pires and Rai in this contest
  • Metz haven't beaten PSG at home since May 2006
  • Dijon are the only club yet to pick up a point so far this season (P3 W0)
  • Monaco, Nimes, and Strasbourg (as well as Dijon) are still looking for their first victories

Talking points ahead of matchday four

PSG's growing injury list

At the start of the season, new signing Ander Herrera was one of the notable players who was absent for Thomas Tuchel's side due to injury.

Now strikers Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe have now joined that list, as well as Julian Draxler. Neymar has been ruled out of the squad due to fitness issues as well, but with him angling away for a move all summer and with his relationship with the board quite fractured, it's quite questionable as to whether he would have featured even if he were fully fit. Thus, it's no surprise PSG have been linked with a whole slew of options as replacements lately, but nothing has come to fruition.
