Leverkusen chief confirms Bayern's in Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen chief opens up on Bayern Munich's interest in Havertz

August 26, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Bavarians have their sights set on signing the German midfielder.

Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Völler has confirmed that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich is keen on signing German sensation Kai Havertz. Die Werkself's sporting director, however, insists that the Bavarians are not the only side to have strong interest in securing the service of the 20-year-old midfielder.

Described as a technically-gifted, two-footed midfielder who is comfortable with the ball, Havertz is currently on a steady rise and has been touted as the next big thing in German football. The Aachen-born phenomenon first made waves by becoming Leverkusen's youngest-ever debutant in the Bundesliga at the age of 17 in 2010. His stats have been impressive since and last season was no exception as he managed 20 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

At the moment the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea are all believed to be keeping tabs on the player who could potentially be playing his final season for Leverkusen. It is believed that Bayern is leading the pack in the pursuit for Havertz's signature and according to the Voller, the Bavarians have already established contact.

"It's no secret that there were a few phone calls and big interest," he told Sky Sports.

"Then I had a friendly and proper call with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. But he totally understood that we won't do that now.

"I can assure you that Bayern Munich was not the only club that asked us about Kai Havertz.

"We will not be weak, because we are convinced that it is good, not only for us, but also for Kai, that he will stay one more year at Bayern Leverkusen and that our fans will be captivated here for at least another year."
