August 19, 2019 By Ali M.
The Brazilian joins the Bundesliga giants on a one-year loan, but the Bavarians have secured the option to buy.

After an underwhelming 2018/19 campaign, Philippe Coutinho will now get a chance to shine at another top European club: Bayern Munich. The German giants officially announced his arrival on Monday morning, announcing that the Brazilian had put pen to paper on a one-year loan deal.

Yes, it is merely a loan deal and not a permanent exit. His deal with the Bavarians will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 30 June 2020 and will is currently under contract with the Bundesliga champions for the 2019/20 season only.

However, Bayern Munich have secured the option to buy. While the club refused to disclose the financial details surrounding this deal, Barcelona went on and revealed that Bayern "will pay 8.5 million euros and the player's wages" plus 120 million euros ($145M) to make his temporary stay into a permanent one.

The Selecao ace had been linked with an array of clubs after a below-average campaign last season. He was tipped with a move to the Premier League while other sources claimed he would end up at PSG in a deal to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou, but for the player, there was no other option that die Roten.

"For me, this move means a new challenge in a new country with one of the best clubs in Europe," he told Bayern's official website.

"I'm very much looking forward to that. Like FC Bayern, I have big ambitions and I'm convinced that I can achieve them together with my new teammates."

Having lost both Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben over the summer, Bayern Munich were in need of quality additions. CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge highlighted how the arrival of the former Liverpool star will bolster their attack this season.

"We've been working on bringing in Philippe Coutinho for quite some time and we're very happy that we've been able to complete this transfer. Our thanks go to FC Barcelona for agreeing to the transfer. With his creativity and outstanding skills, Philippe is a player who will immediately strengthen our attack."

The 27-year-old scored 11 goals and registered five assists for Valverde's side last term but fell out of favor with the Blaugrana faithful. This led to him being jeered by a portion of the fans. Whether he seeks to return to Barcelona remains unknown but a player of his quality should shine in the German top-flight.
