How Pogba could be forced to make transfer U-turn

Ex-Man Utd coach reveals how Pogba could be forced to make transfer U-turn

August 14, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Frenchman failed to seal a move away from the Red Devils this summer but he could attempt to do so next summer.

Former Manchester United assistant manager Steve McClaren has revealed that Paul Pogba could be convinced to stay if the club surrounds him with top-class players. Prior to the closure of the transfer window in England, the French midfielder's future at Old Trafford was in massive doubt after stating his desire to leave this summer.

Reports suggest that Real Madrid is interested in acquiring the service of the World Cup winner while a return to Juventus is also believed to be a possibility. However, Manchester United has maintained its stance that the club's most-prized asset is not for sale and a his departure this summer looks all but over with the transfer business ending in the Premier League.

On the back of his failed quest to complete a switch out of Old Trafford, Paul Pogba put in a massive shift as his side thumped Chelsea 4-0 in their first competitive game on Sunday. The French international grabbed two assists and Steve McClaren, who was a former assistant manager of the Red Devils during Sir Alex Feruguson's spell, insists that he has more to offer.

The ex-Newcastle United boss is convinced that the former Juventus star will star at Old Trafford under the condition that the club buys quality players to complement his game.

"I think he will stay, he would have gone by now." McClaren told Sky Sports News.

"They would have replaced him and now they don't need to, that's the key thing.

"You could see it on Sunday, Chelsea did really well against him in the first half, but once he got space in the second half, he can deliver the pass, score the goal. He can do things.

"When Ole first came in, he got the best out of Pogba for the first 15 games and the way he turned the game around against Manchester City, that's what he's capable of doing.

"Ole believes he can get the best out of him and especially with Maguire and the way they have started, Pogba might think 'yeah, I could be the king of this team'.

"These players want top players around them, to be challenging for the trophies. Manchester United demonstrated that with the summer signings [and] the first game.

"Pogba might be thinking 'they really want me and this is a good team, I could win things here'."
