The Portuguese icon has been dominating the headlines over recent comments he made about the difference between him and Leo, but there's much more to it.

Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the headlines due to a recent interview he had with DAZN in which he touched on the topic of Lionel Messi. Given the rivalry between the two and on-going debate as to who is the better player, anything he said would have made the news.

However, one particular excerpt has been doing the rounds. It is the part where the Portuguese icon states what separates him from the only other man in history to win five Ballon d'Or titles.

The 34-year-old echoed the sentiment held by his legion of fans, stating that what differentiates him from his eternal rival is the fact that he has done it with different clubs as opposed to the one-club Leo. It is the most common argument in favor of the Serie A ace, and the biggest critique of his La Liga counterpart

"The difference with me is that I've won the Champions League with different clubs," Ronaldo told DAZN.

"I've been the top scorer in the Champions League six years in a row."

That statement has garnered him tons of criticism, though, as many have slammed him as being arrogant. However, it should be noted that while the Juventus superstar was guilty of self-praising, the 34-year-old did go on to lavish the Barcelona legend with praise.

Prior to and immediately after that trending quote, Cristiano spoke highly of the 32-year-old, hailing him as "an excellent who will go down in history". He then opened up about his rivalry with Messi, insisting that football has never seen anything of its like before.

The two have gone toe-to-toe for 10 years and counting, and this fact did not go ignored by the former Real Madrid attacker who applauded the Argentine for his consistency. Check out his quotes in this extended clip by DAZN.

Humility might not be Cristiano's greatest attribute but there is no denying the immense respect he holds for Leo and vice versa. Both missed out on the Champions League last season and are also tipped to lose the Ballon d'Or race but another exciting battle for dominance awaits this season.

Barcelona are scheduled to begin their title defense this Friday against Athletic Club. Juventus, on the other hand, will embark on their campaign for a ninth straight Serie A title on August 24 against Parma.
