The first game of the 2019-20 season left Liverpool with a bittersweet taste. Their 4-1 win against Norwich was not enough to forget about Alisson's injury, which switched all alarms on after Friday's game.
Speaking about this subject, coach Jürgen Klopp did not have the best of news for fans around the world, as he confirmed Alisson will not be around for the UEFA Super Cup clash this Wednesday.
"Not too cool. It's a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while. I don't want to make now an exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see. It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see," Klopp told Liverpool's website.
Even so, the German tactician dismissed claims published by English newspapers about a long-term injury for the Brazilian shot-stopper.
"I saw already like 'six weeks' and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks," Klopp added.
Former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel will take over for Alisson until he recovers from the aforementioned calf injury. Furthermore, Liverpool is set to sign Andy Lonergan as a short-term solution for the Reds. Lonergan was part of the team's pre-season squad this summer.
