He's been hyped up as the biggest thing coming out of the United States - and he hasn't played an official game for Chelsea yet. But with a huge price tag on his back, as well as some impressive stats for Dortmund and the USMNT, Christian Pulisic has already made a name for himself so far at the age of 20. Will he be able to shine for Chelsea in the Premier League?

Last season, Chelsea fans endured a turbulent time under Maurizio Sarri's tenure. Although the Italian manager managed to end things on a good note by guiding the Blues to the Europa League title, star man Eden Hazard has now departed the club. As such, there is still an air of uncertainty around Stamford Bridge. Will the team be able to remain competitive this season as they look to remain viable on all fronts?

Legendary manager Frank Lampard is now on the tactician's bench - a move that has been highly welcomed by Blues fans all over the world to replace Sarri, who has returned to his native Italy after a difficult season in charge. With Hazard's high-profile departure has arrived a promising young star from America by the name of Christian Pulisic, who's just 20, but has already made a huge name for himself in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund over the past few seasons.

For those who follow German football, Pulisic's impressive rise is not new, but for those not so familiar with Germany's top flight, here's a quick rundown on what he's achieved in just four seasons at Signal Iduna Park as a professional.

Pulisic made over 100 appearances - 127 to be precise for die Schwarzgelben - and netted 19 times across all comps. Notably, though, are these key stats. First, he's the youngest non-German player to score in the Bundesliga (when he netted against Hamburg in a 3-0 win on April 17, 2016 at the age of 17 years and 212 days). Six days later, he scored again against Stuttgart on April 23, making him the youngest player to grab two goals in the German top flight.

And on January 23, 2017, Pulisic became the youngest player to feature and score for Borussia Dortmund when he grabbed a goal against Benfica in the Champions League. At that time, he was 18 years, five months, and 18 days old.

Here's a rundown of his stats during his four years with Borussia Dortmund. What records will he break during his time at Chelsea?

And he's no slouch at the national level, where he's been making waves with the Stars and Stripes at senior level. In 2016, Pulisic became the youngest player to score for the United States in modern times as he netted during a 4-0 friendly rout of Bolivia in May. He followed that up with with a brace and an assist as the Stars and Stripes cruised to a 6-0 win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during a 2018 World Cup qualifying match, and in doing so became not just the youngest player to score in a World Cup qualifier, but the youngest to net twice in such a match in qualifying history.

Two years later, in 2018, he became the youngest ever player to skipper the team when he was selected as the team's captain for a friendly clash against Italy in November.

A quick look at his stats so far for the USMNT clearly shows that it's not all just a bunch of hype, though:

Since starting out with the under-15 side, he has rapidly grown in leaps and bounds. Whereas other players burst onto the scene and dominate at youth level, only to crash and burn once they hit the senior stage, that hasn't been the case for Pulisic. At the u-15 level, he netted twice in ten appearances, but by the time he reached the u-17 level, he had racked up 20 goals in just 34 appearances.

At senior level, so far, he has scored 13 times while earning 31 caps, and that total will obviously increase as he hasn't even reached his 21st birthday just yet!

Although it was quite frustrating not to see him get a chance to feature for the Stars and Stripes at the World Cup in Russia last year as it would have been intriguing to see him possibly battle Kylian Mbappe for the Best Young Player prize, he did quite well at this summer's Gold Cup. And despite not winning the trophy with the USMNT, he still deservedly walked away with an individual honor - the Best Young Player - and not surprisingly is a two-time recipient of the US Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year (in 2016 and 2017).

Still, with that $73 million price-tag on his back (making him the most expensive American signing ever in the Premier League), the 20-year-old from Hershey, Pennsylvania will certainly be feeling the pressure upon arriving in England for the upcoming season. To alleviate some of that pressure, he's been quick to already downplay comparisons with Eden Hazard - despite admitting he does look up to him - and anyone who wants to make him into a Hazard version 2.0 is sorely mistaken (although the comparisons inevitably have already started, of course). They are two different players and the former Dortmund star deserves to have a chance to carve out his own identity at Stamford Bridge all while further enhancing the profile of American footballing stars abroad.

Pulisic has had a solid pre-season so far with his new side and has definitely impressed new coach Frank Lampard with his displays, namely a well-taken brace against Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg at the end of last month.

And now, he's set to make his huge debut this Sunday against Manchester United at Old Trafford - arguably one of the biggest arenas in the world. With kick-off set for 11:30 EST (8:30 PST), one can bet there will be a lot more fans Stateside eagerely tuning in to see America's young star in action both this weekend and throughout the season.
