The German footballer had been linked to Bayern München for the better part of the summer.

Manchester City -and Bayern München have been handed a major blow ahead of the upcoming season, as winger Leroy Sané will have to spend up to six months on the sidelines due to a knee injury picked up on Sunday's Community Shield clash.

The Citizens and the German side were allegedly in discussions to see the footballer joining the current Bundesliga champions, but confirmation on the extent of his injury might change Die Roten's transfer plans.

Earlier today, Manchester City revealed how the club will deal with Sané's injury via a press release issued on their website.

"He has undergone testing throughout the week, with a specialist doctor travelling to Manchester for further examinations to understand the extent of the injury. Leroy will have surgery in the coming week. Manchester City will provide Leroy with all the support and guidance he needs, and everyone connected with the Club wishes him a quick and full recovery," the document states.

After this revelation, several Manchester City players wished their team-mate a speedy recovery.
