With their hopes of signing Dybala and Fernandes having died off, they are now targeting a proven Premier League playmaker.

Man United's desire to sign a midfielder is no secret. With Paul Pogba being heavily linked with an exit, the Red Devils were tipped to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus.

However, a lot has changed in the last few days, with the Premier League giant reportedly ending their pursuit of the Argentine ace. Furthermore, Solskjaer's side have also given up on signing Bruno Fernandes and have now shifted their focus to one midfielder who has already made a name for himself in the English top-flight.

According to the Daily Mail, that man is none other than Christian Eriksen. The British tabloid writes that Man United are now working hard to sign the Danish playmaker who has been one of the best midfielders in the league since joining Spurs from Ajax back in 2013.

The player himself is pushing for a Tottenham exit and his agent is hopeful of finalizing an agreement. The player's inner circle have also revealed that he is priority number one for Man United.

Eriksen initially revealed his desire to leave Tottenham back when he was rumored to be on Real Madrid's wish list. However, things did not turn out well for the Dane as Los Blancos have eyes only for Paul Pogba, with Ajax's Donny van de Beek being next-in-line should the Spanish giants fail to land the Frenchman.

Man United have until Thursday to complete this business, with the transfer window shutting close on August 08 in England on the eve of the new Premier League season's kick-off. Eriksen has only one year left on his contract with his north London employers, which means Levy and Co. must cash in on him now or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

As a result, it comes as little surprise that last season's Champions League runners-up have been heavily linked with Giovani Lo Celso. Furthermore, Pochettino's side are confident of signing Bruno Fernandes and the departure of Eriksen could help get that deal across the finish line.

The Red Devils are tipped to offer half of Tottenham's initial $159M valuation. With the Spanish and Italian transfer window both closing on September 2, the likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus are expected to make cut-price moves for the midfielder should Man United miss out on the Danish ace.
