The Citizens have started where they left things last season.

Manchester City has landed itself in English football folklore by winning the 2019/2020 FA Community Shield. The Citizens beats Liverpool via penalty shoot-outs to clinch their first silverware of the season following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes on Sunday.

The Etihad outfit men made a real statement of intent from the onset as they grabbed the game's opener inside the first 12 minutes through Raheem Sterling. An impressive second-half showing yielded the expected result with Joel Matip heading home Liverpool's equaliser in the 76th-minute.

Pep Guardiola's men subsequently scored all five of their spot-kicks and Claudio Bravo's save of Wijnaldum's attempt proved to be the ultimate decider. While the early injury picked up by Leroy Sane subtly marred the day's celebration, the men in blue continued their practice of landing records with yet another trophy win.

For starters, the Etihad outfit became the first side to win back-to-back Community Shields since Arsenal in 2015. The also caught up with another record instated by the Gunners in 2002 by becoming the first side in 17 years to win the Community Shield after winning both the Premier League and the FA Cup in the previous season.

Furthermore, the Premier League holders became the first club in England to five successive domestic title and, also,  the first team to win four domestic trophies in a calendar year.

Relatively, Man City manager Pep Guardiola became the first Premier League boss to be shown yellow card following a furious outburst on the touchline. Another booking would have resulted in the Spanish manager's outright dismissal as per the new rules instituted by the Premier League Association ahead of the 2019/2020 League season.
