Los Blancos are ready to break the bank once more to sign a midfielder following their poor performances during their recent friendlies, even if they can't sign their main target.

With the transfer window one week away from shutting down in England, Real Madrid execs are hurrying up to finalize their squad for the 2019-20 season. Unfortunately for them, Paul Pogba's deal seems like a long-shot now, and Los Blancos haver already started inquiries for another player.

According to a report by Spanish newspaper Marca, the team has grown tired of Manchester United's tough stance in their attempt to lure Pogba away from Old Trafford. With that in mind, Florentino Pérez's main man, José Angel Sánchez, has reportedly picked up talks with Ajax to sign midfield sensation Donny Van de Beek, one of the top players for the Dutch side last season.

The Spanish newspaper suggests that Van de Beek's transfer would be a suitable alternative to Pogba, even a better one than Christian Eriksen. With the transfer window in the Netherlands shutting down by the end of the month, Los Blancos would have more time to negotiate a deal with Ajax, who have slapped a $66M price tag on the 22-year-old midfielder.

Marca's report also hints that Zidane is not that satisfied with this deal, especially since he wants to have Pogba around at all costs. The Frenchman is ready to wait until September 2 (when the summer transfer window shuts down) to try and lure his compatriot to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid execs will push for a deal to happen in the next few days, regardless of their coach's desire. When the transfer is confirmed, Los Blancos will focus in parting ways with those players they have labeled as surplus to their requirements, in order to comply with FIFA's Financial Fair Play rules.
