Liverpool will look to recover after a disappointing defeat as they take on Lyon in their last pre-season match on July 31st.

It's been a frustrating pre-season for the Champions League winners this summer, to say the least. Jurgen Klopp's side started off well with back to back wins over Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City, but their USA tour was an exercise in frustration, as they lost to Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla before grinding out a gritty draw with Sporting CP.

Back in Europe, they were shocked to end up losing 3-0 to a Napoli side who had only tested themselves against lower-tier opposition and were missing several key players, including star defender Kalidou Koulibaly following the AFCON tournament. Yes, Liverpool were also missing several of their own stars, such as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Alisson Becker after the AFCON and Copa America competitions, but certainly, Klopp would have expected a much better showing from a team who not too long ago were crowned champions of Europe at Tottenham's expense and were only narrowly beaten to the Premier League title.

So now, in their last pre-season game before taking on Manchester City in the Community Shield, Liverpool will be looking to get back on track against Lyon. Les Gones come into this game having beaten Arsenal 2-1 in the 2019 Emirates Cup, which was the perfect way to rebound after a surprise 4-3 reversal to Genoa in a friendly a few days prior.
