The Dutch defender has broke his silence on the altercation that ensued during Sunday's defeat.

Liverpool center back Virgil van Dijk has addressed claims of falling out with manager Jurgen Klopp during the preseason defeat to Napoli.

The former Southampton star and his German manager were pictured in a heated argument after the Merseysiders conceded the first of three goals against the Partenopians in Sunday's friendly encounter. Although the player did not play any role in the buildup to Lorenzo Insigne's opener, he was seemingly rebuked by his coach.

During the half-time break, the pair were involved in a spat on the touchline with Virgil van Dijk having supposedly taken offense to Klopp's words. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old centre back has since declared that there is not much to go on about amid claims of having given his manager a piece of his mind.

"Just things… between me and him," van Dijk told reporters.

"It's not necessary to reveal what. I think everyone has to communicate with each other.

"Sometimes you have to tell someone the truth, that's how it is."

Meanwhile the defeat to Napoli meant that Liverpool has lost lost three out of six pre-season friendly matches this summer. The Reds are set to take on Manchester City in Sunday's FA Community Shield showdown and have now welcomed the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Allison Becker to the side following their exploits in the Africa Cup of Nations and the Copa America respectively.
