What started out as a rumor is on the verge of becoming a reality. Club América coach Miguel Herrera has openly admitted that two of his key players could not be around by the end of the week, if negotiations with Porto keep on the right track.
Goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín and midfielder Mateus Uribe have made headlines since Saturday following Porto's interest in their services. With negotiations already underway, Miguel Herrera has provided an update on how things could turn out for Las Águilas' icons.
"Their future is already on the table. Their exit is possible because América has been clear on their stance, and if Porto comes up with the cash the team is asking for both players, then there's nothing we can do," Herrera told ESPN AM.
The two-time Liga MX champion with the blue and yellow side went on to reveal what's left to make both deals happen.
"It's 50-50 right now for both of them. We are not hiding anything. All we need to do is wait for them to come up with the amount of money América wants, and let's not forget about the players, the team has to come up with the kind of money they want to earn," Herrera added.
The Mexican coach also admitted that the Eagles are already looking for Marchesín's replacement.
"We have four or five names on our radar. It's the right thing to do when a team comes asking for one of your players, you have to be ready to replace them, and we are doing just that in the event of having to bid farewell to 'Marche'," Herrera stated.
Asked about Mexican shot-stopper Guillermo Ochoa, Herrera revealed that he is still considering the Standardf Liege footballer as one of his options to replace Marchesín despite reports from Mexican journalists.
"We are keeping tabs on Memo, of course, he would be an attractive player, which I happen to know very well. We know what he can bring to the team, he is a top player for our league, and it would be great for America fans," "El Piojo" concluded
América is getting ready to face Tijuana on Matchday 3 of the Apertura 2019 tournament this weekend. If things go as planned, that could be the last game for both South American footballers with the Eagles.
