Zizou, concerned over another pre-season injury

Zinedine Zidane shares concern over yet another pre-season injury

July 26, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The French boss is baffled by the team's unlucky form during this pre-season, where three players have picked up different injuries.

One loss and one penalty kick win for Real Madrid is not exactly the kind of start Zinedine Zidane wanted for the 2019-20 pre-season, and added to that, the French tactician has been dealt three injury blows during the team's first days under a new physical regime.

The first name to visit the team's medical staff was Spanish player Brahim Díaz, who came up with a muscular injury. The former Manchester City player seemed to be on his way out of the team on loan, but this injury has made it difficult for Real's hierarchy to find him a new destination.

The next name on this list is Marco Asensio, who practically said goodbye to the 2019-20 season due to a knee injury. This is the toughest blow for Zidane's plans, since he saw Asensio as a key member of his starting XI.

To make matters worse, recently signed left back Ferland Mendy has also picked up a muscular injury, which will leave him out of the team's last ICC match against Atlético Madrid.

"I'm upset and concerned about the injuries. Ferland's is not as bad as Asensio's, but he will not be able to keep on working. This sort of thing happens during a pre-season, and all we can do is hope he has a speedy recovery," Zidane said.

Zidane was pretty straight forward when asked about the possibility of signing more players, or promoting footballers from the youth categories.

"We are preparing for this season with the players we have right now. We will decide on that matter when we return to Madrid," Zidane added.

Friday's match against Atlético will not be the last warmup game for Los Blancos in this pre-season, since they are scheduled to play against Tottenham next Tuesday.
