The Catalan club needs to offload talent due to their massive payroll, and coach Ernesto Valverde dropped a big hint on this player's future recently.

Barcelona has been linked to many players during this offseason, but one of their current footballers may be living his final moments at Camp Nou due to a contractual disagreement.

While members of the media had tipped Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembelé or Malcom as locks to leave the team, it seems that coach Ernesto Valverde has chosen to offload one of his midfielders. With Frenkie de Jong's arrival and Sergi Roberto's new role in midfield, reports by Spanish newspaper As reveal that Ivan Rakitic has been shown the exit door not only by his coach, but also by the team's hierarchy.

The Spanish media outlet highlights a few words by coach Valverde after their 2-1 loss against Chelsea a couple of days ago, in which he "asked" Rakitic to realize that "time goes on for everyone". Furthermore, the Spanish tactician revealed that Rakitic would have to work harder to earn a spot in the team's regular lineup.

The bad news for the 2018 FIFA World Cup runner up did not stop there, as the Croatian midfielder was told by his agent that Barcelona will not offer him neither a wage increase nor a contract extension, which seem to push the player further away from the Camp Nou as we speak.

Rakitic had been linked to a move to PSG for the better part of the summer transfer window, but Les Parisiens have already ruled out all interest on the player. As of now, Rakitic seems to be edging closer to a move to Inter Milan, who has previously shown interest in his services.
