Leicester accepts Man Utd's Maguire bid

Leicester City accepts Manchester United's world-record bid for Harry Maguire

July 21, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Red Devils have made significant progress in their pursuit.

Manchester United has made a breakthrough in its pursuit of Leicester City centre back Harry Maguire. The Red Devils have reportedly had a world-record bid for a defender of £80 million accepted by the Foxes.

The 26-year-old English man has been on the wishlist of the Old Trafford outfit all summer with the club looking to bolster its defense following its poor run in the league last season. Not too long ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side reportedly had a bit rejected by Leicester City as it was short of the club's valuation of the ex-Hull City star.

A fortnight ago, head coach of Foxes Brendan Rodgers also affirmed that his team did not need to sell its key players although he did not categorically overrule Maguire's potential exit. "There's still time to go," he said as per talkSPORT.

"You never know what happens with all the players but at this moment in time, this is a top-class player who will cost another club a lot of money.

"Thankfully we're in a position where we don't have to sell.

"We don't want to sell him. He's a really special player. He fits how we work fantastically well."

In the aftermath of the ex-Liverpool and Celtic manager's claims, multiple news outlets in England have stated that breakthrough has finally been made with Maguire's departure imminent. According to Bleacher Report and Independent, the player will cost United a whooping £80 million - five million more than Virgil Van Dijk's world-record transfer from Southampton to Liverpool in 2017.

The Independent also claims that the fee could rise to £90 million with the breakthrough in negotiations only coming after the Red Devils agreed to add £10 million in conditional clauses.
