The Italian boss did not shy away from questions regarding the former captain, who will have to seek for other employment opportunities.

Antonio Conte has placed the final nail on the coffin of Mauro Icardi's career at Inter Milan.

The former Chelsea boss has ruled out any possibility of giving Icardi a chance to fight for a place in his squad, which will put an end to the player's stay at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of the International Champions Cup clash between the nerazzurri and Manchester United, Conte referred to the Argentine's future, which lies far away from Milan.

"Icardi will not be a part of our project. That's the truth. It won't be easy to prepare these friendlies without any strikers, but the transfer window is still open. We share the club's vision regarding those players that will stay and those that are set to leave," Conte said.

The footballer has scored 124 goals in 219 games for the nerazzurri.

Icardi's future with the club took a turn to the ugly side when he refused to sign a contract extension. He went on strike and refused to train, which forced then-coach Luciano Spalletti to strip him from the captain's armband. Icardi would return two months after his initial rant, and his relationship with his team-amtes and team execs was never the same.

Conte went on and shared his desire to have Romelu Lukaku around, but he refused to give an update on the negotiation.

"I like Lukaku, but as of today, he is a Manchester United player. I know him well from my time at Chelsea. I trust we can make it happen, but honestly I expected to have that issue sorted out by now," Conte added.

While there has been no indication of a possible deal between both teams, Manchester United execs will meet with Inter's this Saturday. Will there be an option to see these sides swapping strikers? Be that as it may, we leave you with the link to follow this clash wherever you are in the world.
