Zizou and Pérez end Pogba pursuit

Zidane and Florentino Pérez agree to drop Pogba transfer plans

July 18, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
Both men met in Montreal to discuss the team's ins and outs for the rest of the summer transfer window, where the French midfielder will no longer be a priority.

Real Madrid's boss Zinedine Zidane knows that he needs to strengthen the team's midfield, but he has finally agreed to drop all attempts to sign Paul Pogba.

The French boss, who returned to the team's training sessions after dealing with a personal matter, had a meeting with team president Florentino Pérez and right-hand man José Angel Sánchez, where they discussed the team's transfer goals for the next few weeks.

According to Marca, the first decision made by the three men was to cease their intentions of signing Pogba, mainly due to the massive cost of such a transfer. Added to that, Manchester United's reluctance to negotiate deterred the trio from keeping the Frenchman as their top transfer priority.

Marca's report details how Zidane admitted that Pogba's transfer seems like a long-shot, adding that the Spanish giants will now try to strengthen the team's waist by signing either Christian Eriksen or Donny Van de Beek.

The report also states that Real Madrid will wait for Pogba to hand in a transfer request, but if that does not happen, the club will not make a further approach to sign the footballer.

Marca also reveals that Zidane would be keen on keeping Dani Ceballos around, despite the palpable differences between both. Nevertheless, the player seems to be edging closer to leave the club on loan, with Arsenal and Tottenham being his potential destinations.

Speaking about those players set to leave the club, James Rodríguez is still being linked to an exit, while Spanish playmaker Isco may be negotiated if the proper offer gets to Real Madrid's front desk.
