Report: Harry Maguire set to undergo Man Utd medical ahead of world-record transfer

July 14, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The England defender is apparently on the verge of becoming the world's most-expensive defender.

Manchester United's move for Leicester City's Harry Maguire has received a significant boost with the two Premier League clubs finally reaching an agreement. The Red Devils have reportedly had a world-record bid of 80 million pounds accepted by the Foxes for the centre back.

Maguire joined Leicester from Hull City in the summer of 2017 and has rapidly rose to prominence by impressing in the last two seasons for the Foxes as well as the England national team. As a result, the 26-year-old centre back has been heavily linked with moves to top Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City.

Initial claims indicated that Pep Guardiola's side was keen on the defender's signing but interest stalled as the Citizens were adamant to match Leicester's 90 million-pound valuation of Maguire. On the other hand, the centre back has been on the priority list of Manchester United alongside Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, with the Red Devils seeking to strengthen their defense ahead of the new season.

The England centre back was identified as a potential recruit after Jose Mourinho expressed his desire to beef up the Old Trafford club's backline. However, all attempts to secure his service during the Portuguese manager's tenure proved futile.

There has apparently been a ground-breaking development in Manchester United's pursuit with the Sun reporting on Sunday that an agreement has finally been reached with Leicester City. The 26-year-old is expected to cost the Red Devils 80 million pounds, five million pounds more than the amount Liverpool paid to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton.

Per the claims by the publication, the Leicester City defender will be flown into Manchester on Monday to complete his medical before joining the team at the preseason tour.
