The Italian side is also trying to lure James Rodríguez to the Serie A, but they have failed to reach a deal with Real Madrid.

Mauro Icardi may have been linked to a move to Napoli in the past few days, but that doesn't mean that the striker is set to join Carlo Ancelotti's men.

In fact, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that the Argentine striker is not at the top of their priority transfers for the current window.

Speaking to Italian journal Corriere dello Sport, De Laurentiis revealed a private conversation he had with coach Carlo Ancelotti, in which the Italian boss urged him to sign Mexican winger Hirving Lozano rather than adding Icardi to their squad.

"Carlo told me he preferred to sign Lozano, and he is right. We already have Dries Mertens and Arkadiusz Milik as strikers, he would be a perfect fit for our tactical approach," De Laurentiis said.

Lozano has also been linked to Manchester United during the current window.

De Laurentiis admitted that Icardi is an impressive player, and even if he is not one of Napoli's main transfer targets, his skills and worth are out of the question.

"We analyzed Icardi's transfer, but he seems to prefer a move to Juventus. You can't ignore his skills, he is a really good player," the president added.

The movie producer also looked into the main problem Icardi is facing during this window, which is none other than his relationship with his wife/agent, Wanda Nara.

"Judging from a distance, it seems that his career has not been handled properly. He has not realized the role he should have in the decisions concerning his career,"De Laurentiis concluded.
