Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano has officially signed for his former employers Sao Paulo in a €7.6 million deal, the Brazilian club said on Friday
Luis Fabiano has been a target for European giants AC Milan and also Tottenham Hotspur for the past two years although both sides never showed any real attempt to get their man. However, Fabiano has not played regularly this season due to injuries and form and he has finally decided to return to his home country.
"It is the realization of a dream and a gift for all the Sao Paulo community," club president Juvenal Juvencio told the club's website (www.spfc.com.br).
"Luis Fabiano has a 'tricolour' soul and will bring to our team the quality, fun, irreverence and fighting spirit that have always characterized him."
According to the club, the whole process of bringing in Fabiano took a massive four months to complete because of intense speculation leading him to other big clubs.
"The striker gave up his annual remuneration, which in Spain is paid at the end of each season, (to help the move go through)," the club said.
Fabiano insisted that money had never played a part in making a decision and that he feels honoured to be able to play in a Sao Paulo shirt again.
"Money isn't everything in life. Nothing pays for the happiness I feel at wearing again the shirt of the team of my heart," Luis Fabiano told the club's website.
Fabiano joined Sevilla from Porto in 2005 and has scored 106 goals for the Spanish side in all competitions. The club thanked Fabiano for all his contribution and wished him good luck ahead of a new life in Brazil.
"A great player is leaving who will always be remembered as one of the best players to have worn a Sevilla shirt," the Spanish club said on their website (www.sevillafc.es).
"We wish him all the best in this next stage of his career with Sao Paulo, the club where he earned the nickname the 'Fabulous One', which will always be with him."
