Inter director in England to begin Lukaku talks

Transfer: Inter Milan director arrives in England to begin Lukaku talks

July 10, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Nerazzurri chief's trip to commence negotiations with the Red Devils has been confirmed.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku could be on the verge of sealing a move to the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan in town to begin talks for his signature. Director of the Nerazzurri, Piero Ausilio, reportedly arrived in London on Wednesday ahead of his club's first meeting with the Red Devils for the Belgian striker.

After falling behind Marcus Rashford as the first-choice striker with the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lukaku has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford having failed to impress last season. The 26-year-old striker who registered 27 goals in 51 matches in his debut season, managed a meagre return of 15 goals in 45 appearances in the recent campaign.

Earlier, reports indicated that the former Everton star was not in the plans of Solskjaer and, as such, has been given the greenlight to potentially secure a move away from Manchester. However, according to latest claims from England, the Norwegian manager held fresh talks with the forward to persuade him to stay, an appeal which apparently fell on deaf ears with the Belgian keen on moving away.

With Inter looking like Lukaku's most likely destination since time immemorial, the Serie A outfit have finally made a formal advancement for the player. According to Sky Sport's Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzuri's director Piero Ausilio will be involved in discussions about the details of the operation and the terms of the payment with the Manchester United officials.

The entourage from the Old Trafford outfit is expected to play hardball and hold out for its £80 million valuation of Lukaku in a bid to recoup the amount spent to secure the player's service from Everton.

Meanwhile, the striker is currently with the rest of his teammates at the ongoing preseason tour in Australia.
