Lampard appointed as Chelsea boss

Lampard names Chelsea's key player for the 2019-20 season

July 4, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The club's all-time top scorer returns to Stamford Bridge five years after his retirement as a player.

What was not the best-kept secret of all time has finally come to light, as Frank Lampard has finally been appointed as Chelsea boss.

The former midfielder will have to work his magic with The Blues due to the transfer ban looming over the London-based side, but he remains confident about the quality of his work despite such a heavy blow.

Speaking in his first presser as Chelsea boss, Lampard revealed how he intends to shape his team even if some believe he will not he as successful as the Blues' coach due to his lack of experience.

"I have been one year in management and the Chelsea job does not come around often. I don't want to go and start saying I am worried about this and that. I know a lot about this club and how it works, and I have to realize that. I believe in myself, what defines me will be my work ethic," Lampard says.

With the transfer ban forcing him to promote players from the team's academy, Lampard named one player that will be key to achieve success in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

"I think, I've said it out loud before, that Kante is one of the greatest midfield players in the world. In the last few years his performances have been outstanding, and one of the pleasures of me getting this job is that I am able to work with players of his quality," Lampard said.

Here's how Chelsea unveiled their new coach on social media.

The former midfielder, who signed a three-year contract with the Blues, demanded his new players to fight to defend the club's name and legacy, even if there are obvious reasons why people believe they will fail.

"We know there are variables, we know about the transfer ban, Manchester City and Liverpool pulled away last year and we all have to be realistic about that. We should never stop trying to be up there. I won't say I'm coming here and we're going to do this and we're going to do that, but my instinct is to make sure we stay competitive and keep trying to win," Lampard concluded.
