Chelse striker Didier Drogba has backed up Ivory Coast teammate Kolo Toure by insisting that his failed drug test was a mistake rather than him being a cheat.
Kolo Toure has been under-fire after reports revealed on March 3 that Kolo Toure had tested positive for a 'specified substance' that is prohibited in football. Consequently, he was suspended with immediate action by his club, Manchester City.
However, Toure has already received support from the likes of Arsene Wenger and his brother, Yaya Toure. Wenger, who was Toure's former boss at Arsenal, insisted that the Ivorian is not the kind of player anyone would expect to be a cheat. Even Yaya Toure was adamant that his brother is a sincere footballer and now Didier Drogba has defended his friend by saying that it was probably a 'terrible mistake'.
"It would be a difficult situation for us if he is banned because he is one of the most important players, one of the oldest, most experienced players," Drogba said.
"It would be very difficult for us if something like this happens. I think we all know how stupid it was, the mistake, and I don't think he did it to improve his performance. I think it was just a mistake and we feel sorry for him and he has all our support, and that's the maximum we can do.
"I spoke to him and he was down, but that is normal. He said it was just a mistake. There's not a big difference between what is said by Arsene Wenger and what he said (to me)."
Chelsea will take on Manchester City in Premier League in one weeks time and Drogba will be facing a City side that will be missing Kolo Toure, who is still suspended by the club.
