Real Madrid officially announces the formation of its women's football club

June 25, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Las Blancas is finally here!

After weeks of speculation, Real Madrid has officially announced the creation of its women's football club. On Tuesday, Los Blancos revealed its plans mapped out for the upcoming 2019/2020 football season.

With women's football increasingly growing in recent years, Real Madrid remained among the top clubs in Spain without a "femeni" side despite rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid having their women's teams competing at the top level.

In months gone by, Los Blancos have been making huge strides to come up with its own franchise. Headway has finally been made as the Santiago Bernabeu outfit has reached an agreement to integrate with Club Deportivo Tacon - a Madrid based women's football club.

With the merger confirmed, the team - which will now be renamed "Real Madrid"- will be eligible to play in the Primera Division of the Spanish women's football league in the upcoming season.

A statement released on the club's official website in accordance to the development reads as follow: "The Real Madrid C. F. board of directors, which met today, 25 June 2019, agreed to propose a merger through absorption of the women's football club, Club Deportivo Tacón, with effect from 1 July 2020, at the next General Assembly of Members.

"During the course of next season, the 2019/20 campaign, the C. D. Tacón first team will train and play their matches at Real Madrid City as a part of the transitory collaboration between the two clubs."
