The 1986 World Cup-winner was left livid by the national team's disaster show in the 2-0 Copa America opening game defeat.

Argentina began their Copa America campaign in atrocious fashion, sparking outrage from national hero Diego Maradona, the man that captained them to their second and last FIFA World Cup title.

The Albiceleste legend did not hold back his rage after witnessing his country suffer defeat in their opening game of the 2019 Copa America. Messi and Co. locked horns with Colombia with the hope of making amends for the embarrassment that was the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but things did not get off to a great start.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner cut a frustrated figure while the presence of Aguero and Di Maria, superstars in Europe, did little to help. The back-four conceded two second-half goals against the run of play en route to a 2-0 loss.

Scaloni's men were beaten in every part of the pitch, from the midfield to the attack, and Maradona was left livid by what he had seen. The controversial South American figures that at this point, the once great nation of Argentina can be beaten by anyone.

"You realize that even Tonga can beat us?" he is quoted as saying by Sport.

"We built a legacy for this team by dealing with all sorts of punches. Someone should tell them when we all got out of Peru and they nearly tore apart our bus.

"Where did all of that go? What’s left of this jersey’s legacy? God d**n it, you have to fight for this jersey!"

While the likes of Messi, Aguero, and Di Maria have made a name for themselves in Europe, they have been criticized for exactly that: not fighting for their national team. Their lackluster display over the weekend did little to help their cause. While the two-time World Cup champions have two more games before the group stage comes to an end, fans are already fearing the worst.

After reaching back-to-finals and finishing as runners-up on both occasions, La Albiceleste faithfuls yearn to see the title return to Argentina. However, Saturday's performance hinted at another abysmal campaign for Leo and his team-mates.
