France 4-0 South Korea - Women's World Cup

France 4-0 South Korea sets tone for goals-loaded FIFA Women's World Cup 2019

June 7, 2019 By Angela Asante
Veteran Wendie Renard scored a brace whilst captain Amandine Henry closed the scoring which had been opened by Eugenie Le Sommer after only 9 minutes.

It was before the eyes of 45,261 match ticket holders at the Parc des Princes that the French national women's team made a huge statement for all to witness: the affirmation that Women's Football is as entertaining as Men's Football.

Corinne Diacre's ladies were in control from the start. Seconds after the Koreans kicked the very first ball at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, it was no more a matter of whether the hosts would win but rather of how many goals they'd fire into the opposition's net.

Leading the pace in the right flank was captain Amandine Henry who threw defender Jang Selgi into panic all night and forcing forward Lee Geummin to draw back and partner with South Korea's number 16 player. Teamwork was exhibited by Les Bleues throughout the 90 minutes.

The Asian side attempted to put on a bolder show in the second period following their monumental collapse in the first one. However, they were soon colonized again by the dominant French ladies who ended up controlling 59% of the ball in total.

Winning the hearts of all the spectators at the Parc des Princes, skipper Henry finished off a strong run with a curling shot in the 85th minute. France's performance might go a long way into not only propelling them all the way in the competition, but also prompting the other participants to step up to the level of football showcased on the field on the opening day of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
