FIFA Women's World Cup: Where to watch Argentina vs Japan live on June 10

June 8, 2019 By Michelle Bonsu
Will Argentina end their frustrating hoodoo against tournament favorites Japan? Live Soccer TV's match preview provides match facts, team news, and global broadcast listings for Argentina vs. Japan.

Current form: Argentina vs Japan

Argentina will be hoping to improve on their poor showings from past World Cups, and they will hope to build on their recent uptick in form. Although the Albicelestes struggled in the early part of this year, they do arrive in France off the back of two victories in some recent friendlies, and overall, won three out of their five warm-up matches prior to this competition. Nonetheless, they are still viewed as the rank underdogs in this competition due to their overall lack of experience at this level.

Meanwhile, Japan's form has taken a downturn as of late. They did very well in 2018 to rebound after three straight defeats to the United States, Brazil, and Australia in the Tournament of Nations by winning five in a row at the 2018 Asian Games - which they ultimately clinched the prize. Furthermore, they wrapped up the year with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Norway in a friendly, but since 2019 started, it has been an entirely different story. The 2015 World Cup runners up have won one of their last six games - a 3-1 win over Brazil in the SheBelieves Cup. During that frustrating spell, however, they lost to fellow World Cup contestants England and France, albeit they picked up draws against the USWNT, Germany, and most recently, Spain.

That being said, Nadeshiko Japan will be confident in their chances against Argentina, who are back in the World Cup for the first time since 2007. The South American side have had a less than stellar record at this competition, and were humiliated 12 years ago by eventual champions Germany, who crushed them 11-0 to set a record for the highest scoring match at a Women's World Cup. Japan also have enjoyed succss against Argentina - they have yet to lose or even concede a goal so far, outscoring them by 7-0.

How they got to the World Cup: Argentina vs Japan

Argentina secured their spot in France after beating Paraguay 5-1 on aggregate during a two-legged play-off. That match featured the third-placed team from CONMEBOL versus the fourth-ranked team in CONCACAF.

Japan, meanwhile, clinched their second AFC Women's Cup to book their ticket to this competition, ahead of Australia, China, and debutants Thailand.
