The defending champions are expected to sail through the group phase without much complication although a three-way battle is expected among the other teams for the final spot.

What is the history of the teams in the CONCACAF Gold Cup?

USA

As a country with the second-highest number of titles in the history of the Gold Cup, USA will approach this summer's competition with its sight set on a record-seventh title in its seventh appearance.

The current holders won their first championship in 1991 and have since won the 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2017 editions. The Stars and Stripes have finished as runners-up on four occasions (1993, 1998, 2009 and 2011) and have placed third on two occasions (1996 and 2017).

Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago will be making its 16 appearance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup when the United States, Costa Rica and Jamaica hosts it this summer. Nevertheless, the Soca Warriors are yet to deliver any silverware, with their best-ever record being a third-place finish in 2000.

Guyana

Back in March, Guyana made history by qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time.

Panama

Panama will be making its 10th appearance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament this summer. Los Canaleros have never won the competition in its history although they have made it to the finals on twice- 2005 and 2013.

Defeats to the United States on both occasions resulted in a runners-up finishes. That withstanding, Panama has also finished third in the Gold Cup on two occasions; in 2011 and 2015.

Who are the favorites to qualify from Group D?

As holders and joint-host of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the USMNT is expected to sail through without much complication. For the other spot, both Trinidad & Tobago and Panama hold much promise to battle things out in securing it.

The latter comes into the competition on the back of a historic qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. On the other hand, the Soca Warriors will be optimistic about their chances considering their past records at the finals.

Nonetheless, that is not to discredit the prowess of the Guyana Jaguars who have a point to prove in their first-ever appearance at the continental championship.
